Update United States 07-18-22

I have some good updates for you this week on our military project, as we’re working on getting chiropractic into the military. Some legal things have been happening and legislative things around the country. I will also be sharing with you kind of the infrastructure that we’re working on as well. Lots of information for you in today’s update. Well, good morning, American chiropractors. My name is Bharon Hoag. I am the Executive Director of The Chiropractic Defense council coming to you today, Monday, July 18th, 2022 for your weekly update. I have a lot to share with you today. Therefore, I’m going to just jump right in. The first thing I wanna let you know is I got a great report from our lobbyist, and it appears that our pilot project is going to get into the NDAA. We’re talking with the Senate Armed Services Committee, as well as the House.

All of those members of the committee have endorsed our project. And so we’re very excited about that. That’s half a million dollars. It’s going to be allocated to hiring several chiropractors for one base in the United States to show what happens when we incorporate chiropractic more appropriately, instead of one chiropractor for the entire base. We’re going to hire 20 to 30 to 40 chiropractors to make sure that there’s access to chiropractic at all times on the base and not only have access to it but encourage the utilization of it amongst the rest of the healthcare team. So we’re very excited about this. It’s looking very good. We’re expected to get signed by mid-August and then once that’s in place, then we start working with the armed services, figuring out which branch and all of that good stuff. Thank you again so much to all of you that have helped us on that journey.

We’ve had a number of state organizations Chiro Health USA helped us and then a lot of individual chiropractors that are in the armed services right now sharing information with us, as well as those that are just very active and working at bases around the country. We’ve been working on this for almost two years now, and we’re so very thankful to groups like the Patriot Project and their help with their VIPs and our medal of honor recipients, and everyone that’s been involved in this journey. We’re never gonna stop. We knew this was a long game to start with and we’re gonna keep pushing. It will happen that chiropractors have the opportunity to serve our country and the capacity as a chiropractor. We are working on that, and it’s good news. We’ll be updating you as we have more information on that as well.

Also wanted to let you know that we’ve been monitoring legislatively. I know in Illinois and Massachusetts, we’ve had bills looking at removing the right, of religious exemption. We talked with you about Massachusetts. It’s not going anywhere, but, that leads me to my question of the week. Our question this week is from Dr. Ben Grahams and he asked me, Bharon, would you either email me or do it in the video to address the Supreme court’s ruling in regards to the state of New York’s banning religious exemption for vaccination mandate for healthcare workers. To bring that into context it was New York and Maine that had lawsuits to go against the government. In those states, they are not mandating chiropractors to be vaccinated, but they are healthcare workers in, high-risk situations. Hospitals, nursing homes, groups like that. The states mandated that those workers have to be vaccinated. So they filed a lawsuit. They lost in the courts. And so they took it or they requested the Supreme court to be able to hear that case. Well, what Dr. Grahams is talking about is the Supreme court said they are not going to hear that case. And that’s a very important distinction. It’s not that they heard it and that they ruled that those states were appropriate. Excuse me, what they did was they just said that we don’t feel that this is a case that we’re gonna hear that it needs to stay at the state level. Now that’s still not great news because that means that New York can continue to do it.

It’s going to require appeals within the state of New York and potentially in that particular suit, it’s over. However, it wasn’t the Supreme court validating that. I want to be clear that it still leaves it open for us to be able to challenge these types of cases. We’re just going to have to go about it a little bit differently than we have in those particular issues. That’s not a huge loss for us. It was more a matter of the Supreme court. Now, if you read some of the Justices’ appeals to that, they know they’re going to have to hear this case. That more things are gonna be happening, that this isn’t over with states trying to push medical mandates to some degree. And they know that it’s going to come back to the Supreme court. So even the Justices know they’re gonna have to hear it.

They just were not going to hear that particular case. Again, not great news, but it’s not the horrible news that we thought. Dr. Grahams, thanks for sending in that question. And we encourage you to send in questions for your question of the week. Now, let me talk to you a little bit about what’s going on infrastructure-wise where there’s been a lot of talks. There’s a lot of stuff out there and the subluxation Chronicles and a lot of groups that are talking about what’s been going on with the national boards. I’ve been talking to you for a long time now about the infrastructure of our profession and how no one understands how it works and how it’s a little broken because we’re not producing the best product that we can meaning how we acquire students, educate them, get them through boards, get them licensed, and then into practice.

It’s kind of a cluttered system right now, not blaming any individual. The reality is we’re not graduating great people that can immediately plug into practice. There’s a lot of contention amongst the organization. There’s a lot of finger pointing and that needs to change. And so we are continuing to have those conversations, reaching out to these organizations, trying to have conversations to better understand the framework and see if we can’t create a better model. You know one of them. My favorite quote is from Buckminster Fuller, which states that you cannot fix an existing problem by fighting it. You need to create a new model that makes the old model obsolete. And that’s exactly what we’re trying to do here at the defense council. We wanna defend your rights. We wanna make sure that our profession is positioned appropriately. We have such an amazing opportunity in healthcare right now, but we’re still kind of fumbling over ourselves rather than working together to tell our story and that needs to change. And we’re standing up and we’re done with all the Hatfield and McCoy garbage that our profession has been involved in for decades. And it’s now time to be proactive, move forward, hold people accountable and produce a phenomenal result. So that’s where we’re at. And we’re going to continue to push those things forward as we move along. We appreciate you. We appreciate your contribution to what’s going on and help us to spread the word. I’m going to see some of you this weekend. And any of you from AMC, we’ll see at the fab event in Orlando, I’ll be speaking there. Then next weekend, I’m gonna see a lot of my friends with UAC and get to fellowship and, and grow with you guys as well.

So excited to see you as we’re hitting the road here in the fall. We’re gonna be in a lot of different places. If you are in the same place, as I am, please come up and introduce yourself to me because I’d love to meet you and thank you for being a part of our tribe, and just know we love you. Lots of work is being done, and we’re going to continue to love and serve and make sure that chiropractic becomes the number one healthcare choice in the world. So thank you for who you are. Have an incredible incredible week. And we’ll talk to you next week. God bless you. (This is a computer-generated transcript. Please forgive any errors.)
